
Comprehensive Pediatric Dentistry: Prevention, Behavior Management, and Restorative Care
About This Event
This in-person course offers up-to-date guidance on the model of care in pediatric dentistry, addressing clinical issues encountered in daily practice including prevention strategies, behavior management techniques, and restorative therapies across the continuum from infancy to adolescence. Attendees will learn approaches to manage patients with special health care needs, recognize oral indicators of child abuse and neglect and reporting responsibilities, and apply evidence-based strategies for caries prevention and treatment. The program features guest speaker Elise Sarvas, DDS, MSD, MPH, a board-certified pediatric dentist from Mayo Clinic. The activity is designated for 12 continuing education credits by the Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University.
Learning Objectives
- Explain the etiological factors and pathophysiological processes underlying dental caries in children, including roles of bacteria, diet, and host factors
- Evaluate dental management of patients with special health care needs (SHCN), including challenges, risks, ethical considerations, and development of comprehensive treatment plans prioritizing safety and comfort
- Identify signs and symptoms of child abuse and neglect, including oral health indicators, and analyze how dental professionals can recognize and report suspected cases.
