Local Anesthesia Training for Dental Hygienist Licensure

About This Event

This course is a hybrid course designed to fulfill specific requirements for dental hygiene local anesthesia licensure set forth by the State Board of Dentistry of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The course will provide the practicing dental hygienist with the necessary knowledge and skills to safely administer local anesthesia in a clinical setting. The dental hygienist will be introduced to and gain knowledge in oral-facial anatomy; theories of pain control; local anesthesia pharmacology, armamentarium, technique, and complications associated with the administration of local anesthetics. Participants will gain knowledge in the role of nitrous oxide/oxygen as an adjunct to local anesthesia injections, patient selection, and the administration process. The course consists of 10 online Modules that will begin on May 4th that will need to be completed independently online, and two on-site lab sessions for practice in administration with peer partners and overseeing faculty. You must participate in both the online modules, as well as the 2 on-site lab sessions in order to receive full credit. Upon completion of this course, all attendees successfully meeting the educational requirements will have the skill and knowledge to apply for a permit in the State of Pennsylvania to administer local anesthesia under a dentist’s supervision. The course content, if completed in its entirety, will satisfy the requirement of 30 hours of didactic and clinical instruction.
