Periodontal Instrumentation Refresher: Diagnosis, Ultrasonics, Hand Instrumentation, and New Technology
About This Event
This full-day, hands-on refresher course for dental hygienists and dentists reviews current periodontal diagnosis including the 2017 World Workshop staging and grading system, and refines instrumentation techniques for supra- and subgingival scaling and root planing. The course includes focused instruction on hand instrumentation, sharpening techniques, and effective use of ultrasonic scalers, plus exploration of innovations such as guided biofilm therapy using air polishing systems. Through interactive demonstrations and clinical practice, participants will gain confidence integrating these tools and techniques into everyday patient care.
Learning Objectives
- Analyze the principles and clinical rationale behind scaling and root planing to optimize periodontal outcomes.
- Integrate the 2017 World Workshop classification system into clinical decision-making for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning of periodontal diseases.
- Evaluate and select site-specific hand instruments based on anatomical considerations and disease presentation to enhance treatment precision.
- Demonstrate proficiency and adaptability in using ultrasonic scalers on both natural teeth and implants, incorporating ergonomic and patient-centered techniques.
- Critically assess emerging technologies in guided biofilm removal and determine their applicability within various clinical scenarios.
