Diode Lasers in Periodontal Pocket Therapy by Dr. Bob Convissar

Diode Lasers in Periodontal Pocket Therapy by Dr. Bob Convissar

About This Event

Dentists have been using diode lasers for non-surgical periodontal pocket therapy since the 1990s; however, most of the protocols that dentists use for this procedure do not take into account the root causes of periodontal breakdown and the biological processes involved in laser treatment and healing of the periodontium. The purpose of this course is to review the causes of both soft and hard tissue periodontal attachment loss and to provide a science-based protocol to treat the periodontal tissues and restore the periodontium to a state of health.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the biological basis of soft and hard tissue attachment loss
  • Understand laser-tissue interaction in the periodontal pocket
  • Learn a science-based protocol for laser periodontal pocket treatment
  • Understand why laser treatment should NOT be performed at the same visit as scaling and root planing
  • Understand why laser periodontal pocket treatment is only one part of the comprehensive non-surgical periodontal treatment plan
