Local Anesthesia for Dental Hygienists
About This Event
This course will focus extensively on local anesthesia. Through didactic and clinical laboratory components, participants will reinforce their skills at performing inferior alveolar nerve block local anesthesia. The University of Maryland School of Dentistry designated this activity for 8 Continuing Dental Education hours. The program includes lecture and hands-on participation covering anatomy and neurophysiology of pain, pharmacology of anesthetic agents and vasoconstrictors, medical history considerations, local anesthesia techniques (including topical anesthetics), infection control, emergency steps, prevention/management of complications, and administration of local anesthesia in practice. Participants must complete required pre-course homework and submit documentation (license, CPR, forms) and bring clinic attire and basic monitoring equipment for the lab.
