Nitrous Oxide Conscious Sedation Hands-On Training Course
About This Event
This course provides essential information to meet the Nitrous Oxide/oxygen inhalation conscious sedation requirements set by the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners for obtaining a sedation/anesthesia permit. Participants will engage in both didactic and clinical sessions, learning about the benefits of conscious sedation, the psychophysiology of pain and anxiety, and the techniques for administering and monitoring Nitrous Oxide. The course also covers the equipment used, safety guidelines, and special considerations for pediatric patients.
Learning Objectives
- Define conscious sedation and its benefits
- Understand the psychophysiology of pain, anxiety, and sedation
- Understand the physiology of respiration and N2O-O2 inhalation
- Know the advantages, disadvantages, indications, and contraindications of N2O
- Understand techniques for administering N2O and monitoring patients
- Recognize complications of N2O administration and their management
- Learn hazards associated with N2O and exposure reduction methods
- Recognize special problems with N2O in children and proper administration techniques
- Discuss nitrous oxide equipment and safety guidelines
- Understand similarities between N2O sedation and hypnosis.
