Nitrous Oxide-Oxygen Analgesia Training (22 Hrs.) Lecture/Hands-On
About This Event
This program trains participants in administration of nitrous oxide inhalation analgesia with emphasis on integration of oral sedation. The format includes lecture and hands-on supervised participation. Participants must purchase and read the required textbook (‘Handbook of Nitrous Oxide and Oxygen Sedation’) and complete a pre-test prior to the course. Competency is demonstrated by passing the posttest; a passing grade (70%) on both pre-test and post-test is required to receive CE credit. The course does not qualify participants for a conscious sedation permit in Florida that includes IV sedation. Topics covered include pharmacophysiology of oral and inhalation conscious sedation, administration of nitrous oxide-oxygen analgesia, oral sedative protocols, contraindications and complications (including benzodiazepines), and establishing risk-management protocols for safe use of inhalation and oral sedatives.
Learning Objectives
- Understand the pharmacophysiology of both oral and inhalation conscious sedation
- Administer nitrous oxide –
- oxygen analgesia with confidence
- Incorporate an oral sedative protocol into routine practice
- Understand the contraindications and complications related to the use of nitrous oxide and triazolam or other benzodiazepines
- Establish a risk-management protocol for the safe use of inhalation and oral sedatives
