About This Event

The Department of Periodontics and Oral Medicine & Dental Hygiene is delighted to introduce a new online program that satisfies all your relicensure requirements. We welcome you to Wolverine Oral Health Education! This course will be available online for one week in November. You will have access to the following courses: Implicit Bias – 3 CEs, OSHA/Infection Control – 1 CE, Pain Management – 3 CEs, Ethics & Jurisprudence – 1 CE, Human Trafficking – 1 CE (Optional).

Learning Objectives

  • Provide a historical Synopsis of implicit basis and present consequences of implicit biases in professional settings and outside of professional settings
  • Provide findings for discussion using current research on implicit bias and its impact on the healthcare systems and services
  • Consider before and after strategies to reduce disparities in access to and delivery of healthcare services
  • Describe pertinent CDC guidance documents to ensure safe dental care
  • Describe the components of an infection control program
  • Identify the importance of hand hygiene, cough etiquette, PPE, and sharps safety
  • Explain the need for hand piece reprocessing, care of dental unit waterlines, and disinfection of environmental surfaces for safe clinical care
  • Locate and identify bone and soft tissue landmarks and target areas associated with maxillary and mandibular local anesthesia
  • Identify the teeth and soft tissues anesthetized by maxillary and mandibular injections
  • List the common local anesthesia agents available for the dental provider and describe when each agent can appropriately be used
  • Describe common complications and contraindications with local anesthetic and epinephrine and state the appropriate steps in responding to medical emergencies
  • Define the ethical core values
  • Differentiate between an ethical issue and dilemma
  • Describe the ethical decision making model and apply it to multiple cases
  • List the different levels of supervision for dental therapists, registered dental hygienists, and registered dental assistants
  • Discuss the delegation of duties to allied dental personnel
  • Define the various categories of jurisprudence and apply them to various cases
  • Define the types and venues of human trafficking in Michigan
  • Identify victims of human trafficking in health care settings
  • Identify the warning signs of human trafficking in health care settings for adults and minors
  • Identify resources for reporting the suspected victims of human trafficking.
