Pharmacology for Prescribing Dental Hygienists
About This Event
This 4-hour in-person lecture meets the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners educational requirements for Registered Dental Hygienists to apply for recognition to prescribe and administer medication. The course includes a post-course assessment, demonstration of application and NPI processes, and covers topics such as responsible prescribing, drug dispensing and disposal, drug classifications and scheduling, pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics, adverse reactions, medical emergencies, antibiotic prophylaxis, drugs used in non-surgical periodontal therapy, OTC considerations, adjunct therapy, evidence-based decision making, and documentation/record keeping. Attendees must complete a minimum 22-question post-course assessment with a passing grade of 75% to receive a certificate of completion. The course is designated for 4 Continuing Dental Education hours by the University of Maryland School of Dentistry.
