
Prescribing Antibiotics as Prophylaxis
About This Event
Dentists often encounter medically complex patients and situations where they need to decide if there is need for antibiotic prophylaxis. This course is intended for the dentist who would like a better understanding of this complex topic to be able to decide when to or when not to prescribe antibiotics for prophylaxis. This course will provide updated information on the ADA and AHA Guidelines, AAOS Updated Appropriate Use Criteria and Best Practices in the various Clinical Scenarios. Topics include bacteremia-associated antibiotic prophylaxis (prevention of infective endocarditis, prevention of prosthetic joint infection, miscellaneous conditions), surgical antibiotic prophylaxis to prevent wound site infection in high-risk patients, and antimicrobial resistance and antibiotic stewardship in dentistry.
