Every dentist seeking renewal must complete a two-hour board-approved course on proper prescribing and disposal of prescription drugs. This live webinar (2 hours lecture) covers Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners requirements (COMAR 10.44.22), the prescription drug abuse epidemic, identifying patients at risk, post-op pain management without narcotics, proper writing and protection of prescriptions, and disposal of unused medications. Topics include prevalence, commonly abused prescription and non-prescription drugs, definitions, pain management strategies, recognition of abuse, legal implications, mechanisms of addiction, prevention, treatment, chronic pain patient management, and disposal of controlled substances. The course fulfills the MSBDE (COMAR 10.44.22) requirement for re-licensure.
