Infectious Stomatitis: What’s Old, What’s New, and What You Shouldn’t Miss!
About This Event
Infectious diseases of the oral cavity continue to challenge clinicians with diverse presentations and evolving patterns. This course revisits infectious stomatitis from well-known entities such as herpes simplex and deep fungal infections to re-emerging and emerging infections and latest concepts associated with syphilis, HPV, EBV, etc. Through case-based discussions of clinical presentation, participants will learn to recognize subtle oral manifestations, understand current diagnostic approaches, appreciate links to dysplastic and malignant transformation, and review updates in management strategies and interdisciplinary care relevant to everyday dental practice.
Learning Objectives
- Build a strong foundation in recognizing oral manifestations of common and emerging infectious diseases affecting the oral mucosa, including but not limited to herpes, HPV-related lesions, EBV-associated conditions, syphilis, and deep fungal infections.
- Identify related clinical features, and interpret signs and symptoms to differentiate infectious stomatitis from noninfectious mimics using clinical cues, adjunctive testing, and appropriate referral pathways.
- Integrate current evidence and preventive strategies into clinical practice, including considerations for infection control, patient counseling, and oral cancer risk assessment.
