Nitrous Oxide- Oxygen Inhalation Sedation

February 28, 2026

About This Event

This course is specifically designed to introduce nitrous oxide – oxygen minimal sedation to any clinician, hygienist or team member who may be new to this modality, and also qualifies as four hours of continuing dental education required by many Dental Boards for clinicians looking to renew their Nitrous Oxide Permit, or their Minimal Sedation Permit. It also qualifies as four of the fourteen hours required for clinicians looking to renew their Moderate Sedation Permit, Deep Sedation Permit, or General Anesthesia Permits. This comprehensive review of nitrous oxide – oxygen minimal sedation is presented as an interactive program describing the role and benefit of this modality in dental practice. Protocols for integration into a new office will be discussed as well as pearls for introducing this modality into an existing and busy clinical practice. Since patient safety is our number one concern, and there has never been a reported mortality in a dental office while using nitrous oxide – oxygen sedation as the sole sedative while dentistry is being performed, this inhalational agent has seen a resurgence in use. In fact, pain and anxiety relief utilizing nitrous oxide – oxygen minimal sedation is considered one of the greatest achievements in dentistry, comparable to the fluoridation of water and the development of local anesthetics. It remains the most versatile inhalational agent used of all inhalational agents and plays a key role in both dental and medical practice. Case studies will augment the delivery of key points and a problem-based learning approach is encouraged so that each participant’s questions are addressed. After all, if the oath we all took upon graduation was to, “First, do no harm,” then why would you not want to offer your patients the best and safest treatment possible?
