Office Emergencies for the Dental Team
About This Event
This course consists of 3 didactic lectures, a series of case studies and a hands-on skills lab with simulations. It covers the organization of the team during medical emergencies, medical risk assessment for general practice providers, and a review of common emergencies and their management.
Learning Objectives
- Understand the importance of planning for medical emergencies in the dental/oral surgical office
- Define the role of each member of the team
- Find a source of Emergency Based Scenarios so as to practice with the team
- Organize the emergency cart and supplies
- Identify adjuncts with which to better prepare and equip the emergency cart
- Complete a systematic review of the major organ systems of the body
- Understand the most common conditions that affect these organ systems
- Prepare for potential medical emergencies that are seen in the dental office
- Review common emergencies such as vasopressor syncope, hyperventilation, angina, respiratory emergencies, allergic reactions, diabetic emergencies, and cardiac emergencies.
