About This Event

The Tufts Craniofacial Pain Center offers an Advanced Clinical and Didactic TMD & Orofacial Pain Mini-Residency for dental professionals. This program includes an introductory online session, live-streamed modules, and on-campus modules, providing a comprehensive understanding of TMD and orofacial pain. Participants will engage in lectures, case-based learning, hands-on workshops, and one-on-one mentorship with faculty. The program aims to enhance knowledge and skills in evaluating and managing TMD and orofacial pain, with a focus on multidisciplinary approaches to treatment.

Learning Objectives

  • Comprehend the neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, and neurotransmitters involved in pain, and the international classification of orofacial pain.
  • Learn a comprehensive assessment of TMD and orofacial pain patients, including clinical history, examination, differential diagnosis, and plan of care.
  • Understand the international classification of headache disorders, including pathogenesis, clinical presentation, diagnosis, and standard management of migraines, tension-type headaches, trig&#233
  • minal autonomic cephalalgias, and other headaches disorders.
  • Acquire knowledge about neuralgias and intraoral pain disorders such as trigeminal neuralgia, neuropathic pain, odontogenic and non-odontogenic pain disorders.
  • Comprehend the occlusal and skeletal factors contributing to TMD, orofacial pain, and headaches
  • assessment and treatment modalities of temporomandibular joint and masticatory muscle disorders, and the use and understanding of different hard and soft tissue imaging.
  • Learn the use, limitations, and clinical effects of Botulin Toxin in the management of myofascial pain, headaches, and other pain conditions.
  • Learn the interaction between sleep and pain, common sleep disorders associated with headaches, and the clinical presentation and management of common oromandibular movement disorders.
  • Understand the risk assessment of psychological and medical factors
  • behavioral management, and pharmacotherapy approach to TMD and orofacial pain patients.
