
Basic Life Support (BLS) Recertification
About This Event
Basic Life Support (BLS) Recertification course developed by the American Heart Association (AHA) for providers proficient in CPR and AED use. The shortened course reviews CPR and AED use, relief of choking and rescue breathing, emphasizing skills evaluation and testing. Upon successful completion, participants receive the AHA BLS Healthcare Provider course completion card. Course tailored to dental practices and scenarios. Instructor: Kelby Scandrett, RN. Topic schedule (1.5 hours): 0:00-0:05 Course Introduction and Overview; 0:05-0:15 Chain of Survival, AED use and bag-mask ventilation hands-on; 0:15-0:35 One and Two Rescuer CPR for Adult and Child hands-on; 0:35-0:50 Team Dynamics and Infant BLS hands-on; 0:50-1:00 Relief of Choking; 1:00-1:30 Review, Conclusion and Written Exam (30 minutes). Classes limited to 10 participants. Cost: $80 (College of Dentistry staff) or $90 (general public).
Learning Objectives
- Recognize life threatening emergencies and activate the emergency response chain of survival
- Describe and perform high quality CPR and AED use for adult, youth and infant scenarios through demonstration and testing
- Demonstrate timely and effective rescue breathing and relief of choking in adult, youth and infant.
