The purpose of this self-instructional course is to provide a succinct and easy guide to help clinicians and students understand and implement the 2018 AAP/EFP classification system of periodontal and peri-implant diseases and conditions. Content covers the rationale for the new classification, the key dynamics behind it, the four major components, the concept and criteria for staging and grading of periodontitis, steps for determining a periodontal diagnosis, and how the classification aligns with Precision Medicine.
